The Lake House and Saylorsburg, for some reason, became known as "the place to kill yourself" during the Great Depression.

Over 15 suicides were committed on the front porch of the hotel and in its rooms.

One stock broker left New York City by train all the way to The Lake House where he checked in and promptly went up to his room and slung a belt around a ceiling beam and hanged himself.

One man had a last meal in the dining room and shot himself on the top floor in his room, leaving a simple note behind that he could not face his family and the financial ruin he brought upon them...
